FAQ: Will QR codes wear off in harsh environments?

ANSWER: No. Our QR codes are designed to last significantly longer than six months.

Our ID badges are engineered for high-intensity sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, and the trades. Unlike standard printers, we use 600 dpi Retransfer Technology, which embeds the QR code beneath a protective layer of clear film.

  • Manufacturing & Warehousing: Resists abrasion from heavy machinery contact and constant scanning.
  • Trades & Security: The retransfer film provides a barrier against moisture, debris, and UV exposure for outdoor site access.
  • Healthcare: Withstands frequent sanitization and contact with cleaning alcohol/chemicals that would typically dissolve standard thermal ink.

Expected Lifespan: Even in high-friction trade environments, the Agilia output is designed to remain scanable for 3+ years, far exceeding the 6-month threshold.

The Solution: Retransfer Technology and Edge-to-Edge Printing

Since we use retransfer printing technology, the ink is not applied directly to the card. Instead, the design is printed onto a clear film, which is then thermally bonded to the card surface. This provides several layers of protection:

  1. Over-the-Edge Protection: The retransfer film covers the entire surface of the card, preventing the “fading edges” common in standard printers.
  2. Abrasion Resistance: The film acts as a wear-layer, protecting the QR code from physical friction (sliding in and out of wallets or card readers).
  3. UV Resistance: High-quality retransfer films include UV inhibitors that prevent the black pigment from fading under office lights or sun exposure.
  4. Material Versatility: You can print on heavy-duty materials like Polycarbonate (PC) or PET, which are far more durable than standard PVC for long-term use.
